Rakhuni Kant
Rakhuni Kant
Located on the north side of Ratanpur Bazar in Khanpur Union under Birampur upazila of Dinajpur, the house of this zamindar dynasty which is an archeological site is about to disappear due to lack of preservation. According to the investigation, the British had earlier appointed Prince Sarkar as a rent collector with the zamindar of Phulbari Sent to Ratanpur Kachari in Birampur. From here he used to collect rent from the people of Birampur, Nawabganj, Hakimpur and Fulbari areas with skill and ability. Satisfied with the efficiency of the performer, the zamindar married the prince to his sister and gave Ratanpur Kachari as a gift along with 850 bighas of land. From the ordinary collector to the zamindar, the prince became addicted to more and more money. However, after his death at that time, his son Rakhuni Kant Babu became the sole patriarch of this zamindar house.

But when the war of independence broke out in this country in 1971, Rakhuni Kant Babu moved to Calcutta with her descendants. At present an Islamic Mission Hospital, a Dakhil Madrasa, a mosque and a huge pond have been built in the vicinity. The lovely two-storied building built by the zamindar which is now abandoned is now a dilapidated jungle haunted house.
